Michael "Gonzo" Gonzales AS "R Valory" was born in Redwood City, California and raised in California's Central Valley. "One of ten children, I first took interest in the guitar at a young age while watching my older brothers play. My parents bought my first guitar and some Beatles albums. Picking up lessons here and there, my style evolved into playing from the heart with soul. I taught myself to hear the slightest details in riffs and chords then capture those, with over 30 years of experience, my groove on bass developed into the strong driving force it is today.

From the beginning out of high school, I began playing bass with local garage bands. Time passed and many garage bands later with the influences of musicians such as Francis Rocco Prestia, Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clark, Sting, Chris Squire, John Entwhistle, James Jamerson, Getty Lee, and many others, along came the professional bands, record deal, and being a signed artist.

Always pushing myself , I have played and toured with some very talented musicians in a wave of music styles in rock, heavy metal, blues, funk, salsa, jazz, and country. I played bass and backing vocals for cover bands and original bands such as Rocket City, Stiff Jones along with Val Popovic, Bobby Escovedo & Friends, RockHaven, Colt Taylor and most recently, Crazy Ivan with Jim E Anderson of Elvin Bishop and Greg E Noll of Warrant SF and Villain.

In the 1990s I joined Villain. Taking the place of Tommy Sisco who left to join Vicious Rumors, I got the opportunity to play with Val Popovic again. With reformation and a short time later, Alfa Records signed Villain and our debut CD, "Chequered Past" was released which enjoyed success in Japan and Europe. Today, Villain tribute bands continue to play in Tokyo and Germany.

In the early 2000s, I formed a band called Tabu with guest performances by Mic Gillette of Tower of Power. Playing Northern California and the Bay Area, Tabu received a MAMA (Modesto Area Music Association) award for Best Blue Collar band in 2002.

Television, radio and newspaper interviews, recording tracks, studio work, professional photos, rehearsals, and touring, all led to my performing in opening acts for bands such as Vicious Rumors, Bullet Boys, Quiet Riot, Warrant, Y & T, FireHouse, Mountain, Great White, Barnaby Wild, Ted Nugent, Lita Ford, Tesla, Kix, Night Ranger, Triumph, amongst others.

Portraying Ross Valory's unique style of riffs, my experience and talent shows itself. I bring a strong foundation of Valory's bass and influences in the Journey style.
